David Sassoli, l’ultimo saluto alla camera ardente: da Mattarella a tutti i leader di partito. Venerdì i funerali di Stato con Von der Leyen
CommentiI primi sono stati il presidente della Repubblica Sergio Mattarella e il presidente del Consiglio Mario Draghi. Poi tutte le più alte cariche dello Stato e rappresentanti delle istituzioni nazionali e locali, ministri, leader di partito, parlamentari e semplici cittadini. Centinaia di persone hanno reso omaggio da stamani al presidente del Parlamento europeo David Sassoli, morto a 65 anni a causa di un mieloma, alla camera ardente allestita in Campidoglio. La sala resterà aperta al pubblico fino alle 18. Domani, venerdì, Mattarella sarà anche ai funerali di Stato nella chiesa di Santa Maria degli Angeli, a Roma, con i presidenti della Commissione e del Consiglio Ue Ursula von der Leyen e Charles Michel.
Tra coloro che hanno reso omaggio a Sassoli i presidenti delle Camere Roberto Fico e Maria Elisabetta Alberti Casellati, il vicepresidente del Csm David Ermini, il sindaco di Firenze Dario Nardella (Sassoli era nato lì), il presidente della Regione Lazio Nicola Zingaretti e poi Enrico Letta, Roberto Speranza, Matteo Renzi, Pierluigi Bersani, Massimo D’Alema, Walter Veltroni, Matteo Salvini, Giorgia Meloni, Antonio Tajani, Lorenzo Cesa. Tutti hanno parlato brevemente con la moglie e i figli di Sassoli e accompagnati anche dal sindaco di Roma Roberto Gualtieri. “Se fossero così tutti gli avversari politici – ha detto la leader di Fratelli d’Italia – la politica sarebbe una cosa alta. Per questo penso che le istituzioni perdano una bella persona. Condividevo poco o nulla delle idee di David Sassoli ma riconosco il valore di una persona che si batte convintamente e anche profondamente per le sue idee. Quindi lo ringrazio anche per il lavoro che abbiamo fatto insieme. Era una persona con la quale era facile avere a che fare e anche scontrarsi, per questo era affascinante”.

Tra coloro che hanno sfilato davanti al feretro del presidente dell’Europarlamento anche il rabbino capo di Roma Riccardo Di Segni e la presidente della Comunità Ebraica romana Ruth Dureghello. I vertici della Comunità Ebraica hanno comunicato ai familiari l’intenzione di piantare degli alberi in Israele in sua Memoria. Nella tradizione ebraica – informa una nota della Comunità – la piantumazione degli alberi rappresenta la continuità ideale tra il percorso di vita e le idealità che hanno mosso un’esistenza affinché la memoria non sia una semplice circostanza, ma sia linfa vitale per le generazioni future. “Gli ideali e i valori di uguaglianza, rispetto, dialogo che hanno contraddistinto in vita David Sassoli rappresentano un patrimonio comune da non disperdere, da trasmettere il più possibile e costituiscono una grande eredità morale”, si legge.
Un ultimo saluto, in attesa dei funerali di domani, arriva anche dal vicepresidente della Commissione europea Frans Timmermans, amico di Sassoli. “È stato un uomo di grandissima umanità, un amico che c’era sempre” e “credo sia stato un eccellente presidente” dell’Europarlamento – dice Timmermans – “Ha costruito non pochi ponti tra posizioni diverse ed era aperto a tutti, non solo alla sua famiglia politica”. “Dal punto di vista politico – conclude il vicepresidente della Commissione – per me è stato un compagno per decenni e mi dispiace molto ciò che gli è successo, che abbia molto sofferto negli ultimi mesi e abbia perduto questa battaglia, a Strasburgo celebreremo la sua vita”.
